#327 - DB

This post is about a patient that had more to him than met the eye.  Have you ever heard the saying, don't judge a book by its cover?  Well, this patient sure fooled me.  Let me paint the picture and see if I can convey with words what I had trouble believing with my own eyes.

1.  A man in his late fifties.

2.  Down da bayou accent if ya know wat I meen.

3.  Shrimper and fisherman.

4.  Oilfield worker.

5.  Weathered skin from a lifetime spent trawlin the bayous.

6.  Good with his hands, that is, very handy.  Fixed several pieces of equipment while he doing therapy here, usually by using cajun ingenuity.

OK - everyone got the mental picture?  Now let me shake it up.  In addition to the above, #327 also:

7.  Wore a pink shirt to therapy 8 out of 10 days that he attended.

8.  Wore pink fuzzy crocs.

9.  Favorite TV show was the Golden Girls.

10.  Loved to talk about the performances on American Idol and Dancing with the Stars and definitely had a favorite on each show.

Still got the mental picture?

Now let me put the two together...

We had him doing some work-related activities that included:
**Climbing a ladder in his pink fuzzy crocs.
**Working with a bolt and screw in an overhead position while whistling show tunes.
**Talking about the latest adventures of the Golden Girls while he pumped iron with his legs.

:)

Makes me smile, just remembering.  A very nice man.  Went above and beyond.  He even went and rented some sort of tool for us when we had to replace a pedal on our bike.  He completed the job and then returned the tool...all while wearing those funny crocs.

You can't judge a book by its cover means that before you can judge something, you need to take a deeper, closer look at it.

The value of something is not always obvious from what we see on the surface, so we should save our judgments until we have more experience.

This will be the quote for the day for all to remember. 

The other one that comes to mind is,

All that glitters is gold. 

This one applies to #327 too!
