#140 - NL

Just before we moved into our new house, we realized that it needed a really good cleaning before we brought all of our stuff in.  The carpenters had done the best they could, but all the cabinets needed a good wiping down, floors needed to be vacuumed and mopped (again), along with many other odd jobs.  My family and extended family all pitched in with the clean-up effort, but at the end of the day...there were still some jobs that we just couldn't (or didn't want to) get to.

Enter #140.  She was recommneded to us by a friend of a friend as someone who was willing to do anything we needed to help make some extra money.  It is sad in today's world, that when you hear this, you are immediately suspicious.  You worry about leaving them alone in your house etc.  But I am happy to report that there are still good Christian people in this world who believe in honest work for honest pay.  #140 was one of those.  Her job was to scrape the 2-3 stickers that were on every single window in my house, off with a razor blade.  This involved climbing on a ladder, squatting and kneeling, and lots of patience followed with some Windex.  It may sound easy, but after helping her do two of them, I gladly turned over the rest.  For those of you who have seen our house...let me just say that we are not short on windows.  She came in each morning around 8 and stayed until 5.  Other than taking about a 1/2 hour to eat the sandwich she had brought, she scraped windows.  We happily paid her the agreed on amount with a little extra because we were so grateful.  Whenever I open up my blinds to let in the beautiful sunlight like we had today, I am thankful for #140.
