Cancer scares me! I just finished reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I just finished reading my new People magazine about Patrick Swayze. I just bought some new Oakley sunglasses and the salesman talked me into white and pink ones because they supported breast cancer. All 3 scare me!
I know I am extremely lucky that no one in my immediate family has been diagnosed with cancer. It seems as if it is all around us. My #6 person is the wife of a friend. She has battled cancer and cancer scares. She still goes back for check ups regularly and I can only imagine how her stomach knots, waiting to hear her latest results. I inquired about her health recently and I got an "all clear." Whew! I hope and pray that she gets the same news next time. I also pray that if this terrible disease ever affects me or any of my family members that we all can handle it with the same grace and support that she and her husband have shown each other.
O Saint Peregrine, you who have been called "The Wonder-Worker" because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you, who for so many years bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more: you who were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction, ask of God and Our Lady the cure of these sick persons whom we entrust to you (names of those for whom you are praying, including yourself if need be). Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing praise to God for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.
