#271 - JP

Remember when the term "computer nerd" meant something bad.  People used it in derogatory ways that brought to mind geeks with pocket protectors and glasses taped together at the nose.  They were picked on and made fun of.

Who's laughing now????

This post is about a guy who probably fit the definition of computer nerd at one time in his life.  Instead of nerd, I will call him talented, smart, and even throw in awesome.  He has learned to make computers work for him instead of feeling frustrated from not understanding them.  We hired him to help us automate our house and he came up with a ton of really cool ideas.  His really cool ideas came with a really big price tag so we did not implement all of them, but we could.........

*How about a camera security system that can be accessed from any laptop computer...
*Garage doors that can be opened and closed from that same laptop.
*A timer on the lights in my kids rooms and closets so that every 15 minutes it checks to see if they have left them on and if so, turn them off.
*A connection to our AC/Heater so that during the day when we are gone the temp kicks up, but about 30-45 minutes before we get home, it kicks back down so we will be o' so comfortable when we get there ( My AC loves me feature)
*A lighting system connected to my fire sensors so that when my fire alarm goes off, the lights in the hallway that lead to the exit doors automatically come on to light the path.
*The same lighting that illuminates the outside entryways when our burglar alarm is tripped.
*A "party mode" so that when that button is pressed, the AC lowers, the music kicks in, and the outside lights stay on.
*A "husband's out of town" mode so the AC re-sets to my internal comfortable temperature instead of Jeff's and I can skip my long johns and flannel pajamas :)

Really cool stuff that just takes some know how to set up.

Thanks to #271 for not bowing to peer pressure and trying out for the football team instead of computer lab!
